God has called me to work college students over the past 12 years in various part-time and full-time capacities-teaching, coaching, residence life, and mentoring. I have a deep love for this group. The college years are such an exciting time of growth-a time of making many significant life decisions. Students are "taking flight" and making their faith their own in many ways. I love the passion and the eagerness to learn & serve that I see in students I work with. They are praying for God's direction--many going to seminary and to the Journeyman program. I have one former student in Central Asia and one leaving next month for Africa.
Unfortunately, it is also a time that Satan relentlessly attacks them through pornography, materialism, body image issues, eating disoders, depression, etc. He desperately wants to prevent all that promise and passion from impacting the world for God's glory.
Over 20,000 college students from all the states and numerous countries around the world converged on Atlanta this past week for the Passion Conference, targeting 18-25 year-olds. It is a time of learning, worshiping, and catching a vision for the lost world around them and their role in reaching it. Speakers included John Piper, Beth Moore, Francis Chan, and Louie Giglio. Please pray for these students as they return to their campuses and communities. Pray that their enthusiasm and desire to know & serve Christ will be encouraged and nurtured in their churches.

I used to work at a college and part of my responsibilities included being a dorm supervisor and being available for counseling, etc. You're right - this is such a critical age. Seems every week I hear a parent express concern for their college-age son or daughter who is struggling spiritually. Good for you for being involved here. This conference sounds powerful.
This is awesome Kelly. I am convinced that these are the years that are so crucial. So many choices and decisions are being made that have lasting impact not only on their lives but also on the lives of others. Too often in churches we focus on the everyone but our college kids. And yet they are standing at the door making the choice of Who they will serve and how they will spend their lives. Praise God you are serving these young woman in this way. They are truly blessed.
thanks for the heads-up on this. We always had this same type of prayer and concern when we left Christian camp each some. We had so much passion and fire and heading down off the mountain there was always the concern we'd quickly lose it once we were back in the world.
Blessings,
Karla
Louie Giglio embodies the movement he has created: passion. When I was in college (too many years ago to admit) he taught a Monday night Bible study attended by hundreds of college students. The Passion praise CD's and what I know of Louie and the rest of the speaker team make me wish to be in college again! May God take this conference, the praise and worship, the proclamation of His Word...and ignite a fire of "Passion" for His Son Jesus that can never be quenched! May He spark the flame of revival among these students!
I have some relatives who attended that particular conference this week. They were sooo pumped about getting to go. Thanks for praying for them!
That is awesome! What a great conference for them to attend.
Oh, by the way, anyone that is a Jennifer Knapp fan is a friend of mine. :) I really wish she would make another CD!
Sounds like a fabulous event. Praying for it to be life changing for so many!!
What a great event. Prayers for the changes it will bring! Great blog design! Susie is so talented.
My husband took a group of students to the Passion conference and they loved it. I actually watched one of the sessions online last night. If you go to 268generation.com you can watch any of them. I wish I could have been there too!
That is so great that you work with college students..you're right, it is such a critical time. Our youth minister from church went to this and my college son had some friends go. It sounds awesome.
